From Boomi to Celigo: How The Wine Collective cut platform costs by 56% and transformed its integration operations

“Before Celigo, our tech team spent a significant part of every day managing integration errors. Now, the system handles that automatically. We’ve gone from reactive firefighting to actually focusing on improvements that move the business forward.”

The Challenge

The Wine Collective reached an operational inflection point on Boomi. NetSuite’s SOAP connector and Shopify’s REST connector were both approaching deprecation. Upgrading within Boomi was an option, but it forced a broader evaluation of platform suitability.

NuageSync, The Wine Collective’s implementation partner, audited the architecture and identified areas where technical debt had built up over the years, along with a few opportunities to tighten day-to-day operations:

  • Inventory gaps: Kits sold through Shopify failed to accurately reflect component-level inventory changes.
  • Data friction: Multiple customer updates within a short window triggered duplicate processing loops.
  • Financial leakage: A flaw in the NetSuite-to-Shopify-to-LoyaltyLion flow ignored negative line items (discounts), resulting in excess loyalty points being issued.
  • System strain: Frequent NetSuite concurrency spikes hit 75% to 100% utilization, increasing the risk of dropped messages as transaction volumes scaled.

The retailer needed a platform that supported a full process redesign at a cost that enabled their long term company growth and financial success.

The Solution

Following a thorough evaluation by NuageSync, The Wine Collective selected Celigo as their integration platform as a service (iPaaS) product of choice. The end-to-end migration from Boomi was delivered on time and on budget. Within fifteen weeks, the team completed a full migration and go live of the company’s core iPaaS, data and system integrations, and redesign of the underlying processes running the company’s mission critical operations.

This wasn’t just a platform migration. It was an opportunity to rethink how The Wine Collective’s systems worked together. Celigo gave us the flexibility to redesign processes properly, and the results speak for themselves: a 56% reduction in platform costs and a tech team that’s no longer buried in error management.

Instead of a standard “lift-and-shift,” NuageSync redesigned core operations from the ground up:

  • Customer Data: Switched to batched Shopify-to-NetSuite updates, ending the duplicate loops from rapid profile modifications. Resolved edge-case errors (e.g., duplicate phone/address fields) that previously blocked syncs entirely.
  • Product & Inventory: Decoupled inventory updates from product data flows to drop unnecessary traffic. Fixed the Kit synchronization flaw to accurately track component inventory online.
  • Order Management: Redesigned workflows to create customer profiles in NetSuite before order generation, cutting legacy timed delays. Consolidated NetSuite discounts into a single custom discount line in Shopify to stop inflated loyalty point calculations.
  • Fulfillments: Injected Shopify line IDs directly into NetSuite, enabling accurate partial fulfillments and future automated refund flows.
  • Error Management: Applied Celigo’s auto-retry and auto-resolve errors functionality to resolve intermittent errors automatically, backed by enhanced trace-key logging for accelerated debugging.

Staying ahead of API changes with AI

Deprecation risk was the pressure that started the platform evaluation in the first place. The team has leveraged Celigo Ora to stay ahead of it rather than tracking changes by hand.

Manually reviewing the Shopify API changelog for deprecations was a major pain point. We provided Celigo Ora with our Celigo flow IDs and the relevant Shopify changelogs. Ora cross-referenced the changelog against our current setup to identify immediate and upcoming deprecation risks, and provided recommended updates.

What was once a manual review of every changelog entry against every live flow now runs as a targeted analysis, with risks and recommended updates surfaced before they turn into broken integrations.

The Results

The Celigo migration delivered immediate, quantifiable impacts across finance, technology, and operations:

  • 56% Reduction in Platform Costs: Reduced ongoing integration platform spend by more than half. Compared to the cost of upgrading within Boomi, switching to Celigo delivered at least a 44% net cost saving.
  • 25% Improvement in NetSuite Concurrency: Eradicated redundant update loops. Concurrency peaks that previously hit 75–100% now sit safely below 50% for the majority of usage, expanding scaling headroom.
  • ~90% Reduction in Technical Error Management: Celigo’s automations to auto-retry and auto-resolve errors self-heal the vast majority of intermittent data sync errors, shifting the IT team from routine triage to strategic development.
  • Eliminated Financial Leakage: Fully resolved the LoyaltyLion discount handling flaw, protecting margins and stopping excess loyalty point issuance.
  • Future Scale Architecture: Standardized Shopify line IDs, decoupled inventory pipelines, and batch-processing frameworks position the business to support continued volume growth without expanding data complexity.

The Wine Collective’s migration to Celigo, delivered by NuageSync in 15 weeks, stands as a clear blueprint of what a well-executed platform transition can achieve. By rejecting a simple “like-for-like” upgrade, the retailer slashed ongoing costs and established clean, reliable data pipelines. Most importantly, this modernized integration layer eliminates data friction, paving the way for advanced AI initiatives and future digital commerce growth.
