EDI for Dynamics 365 is a business risk, not just a back-office task: what we heard at Community Summit 2026
At Community Summit 2026 in Nashville, the most common concern from Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Finance and Operations (F&O) teams was EDI.
IT leaders said they lack visibility into failed transactions, lack control over trading partner connectivity, and can’t resolve errors without waiting on a vendor. They want EDI they can see, own, and fix themselves, with validation up front, faster partner onboarding, and AI-assisted error resolution.
Community Summit 2026 brought together thousands of Microsoft Dynamics users, partners, and ISVs. We went expecting to talk about integration broadly. We left having talked about EDI almost nonstop.

For organizations running Dynamics 365 Business Central and F&O, EDI was the issue that kept coming up. Here are the themes that defined our conversations.
How do you get visibility into EDI transactions in Dynamics 365?
Most managed EDI providers handle connectivity and mapping behind the scenes, so IT teams can’t see which transactions succeeded, which failed, or why. The fix is EDI that runs on the same platform as your ERP integration, so every transaction is traceable from receipt to posting.
Here’s why that matters. EDI transactions are the lifeblood of the business. Purchase orders, invoices, advance ship notices (ASNs), and inventory feeds flow between companies and their largest trading partners every day. When those transactions fail, revenue and customer relationships are on the line.
Yet most organizations we spoke with described their EDI setup as something they can’t see into. A managed provider sounds convenient until something breaks. Then IT is left opening a support ticket and waiting while a retailer asks why their order hasn’t been acknowledged.
Three gaps came up repeatedly:
- Lack of EDI visibility. Teams can’t tell which transactions succeeded, which failed, or why.
- No control over connectivity. Adding a trading partner, changing a protocol, or adjusting a map means going through the vendor.
- No self-service error resolution. Even simple fixes require outside help, which turns minor errors into multi-day delays.
Attendees didn’t describe these as inconveniences. They described them as strategic threats to the business, and they’re actively looking for a way to reduce that risk.
How do you prevent EDI chargebacks with document validation?
Alongside the strategic concerns, a lot of the conversation was practical. Document validation was a recurring frustration. Organizations want transactions checked against trading partner requirements before they’re sent, not rejected afterward with a chargeback attached. Getting the fundamentals right is still a differentiator because so many existing solutions don’t.
How do you speed up EDI trading partner onboarding?
Onboarding speed came up as a direct business constraint. Every new retailer, distributor, or supplier relationship starts with an EDI connection, and when that takes weeks or months, growth slows with it. Businesses want trading partner onboarding to be repeatable and largely self-serve, with the connection to Business Central or F&O handled as part of the process rather than as a separate project.
What is agentic EDI?
Agentic EDI is a system that goes beyond dashboards: it detects a failed transaction, explains what went wrong in plain language, suggests or applies a fix, and helps onboard a partner by interpreting their specification.
This was the newest theme at Community Summit, and it’s gaining momentum fast. Attendees want more than visibility. The expectation is shifting from “give me visibility” to “help me act.”
What is the best way to run EDI for Dynamics 365 Business Central and F&O?
These conversations reinforced why we built EDI into the Celigo integration platform rather than treating it as a separate product. Because EDI runs on the same platform as your Business Central or F&O integration, you get:
- Full EDI visibility: every transaction, from receipt to ERP posting, in one place
- Control over connectivity and mapping, so your team owns the relationship with each trading partner
- Self-service error resolution, with errors surfaced in context so your team can fix and retry without waiting on a vendor
- Built-in document validation against trading partner requirements before transactions are sent
- Faster partner onboarding using prebuilt templates and a repeatable process
- An agentic experience that helps your team understand, resolve, and prevent issues rather than just report them

Take your next step
The Microsoft Dynamics community is done accepting EDI as a necessary evil. Organizations want to own it, see it, and fix it themselves. That’s the direction we’re building toward, and Nashville confirmed we’re building in the right place.
