NetSuite Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) FAQ

By Rico Andrade
June 12, 2018
NetSuite introduced two-factor authentication (2FA) requirements with the NetSuite 2018.1 release. This article provides a FAQ on the new requirement for companies using Celigo integrator.io and/or Integration Apps.
1. What is the new NetSuite 2FA requirement?
Beginning with the NetSuite 2018.1 release, users with Administrator or Full Access rights for all new NetSuite accounts must use two-factor authentication (2FA) during initial login. Existing NetSuite accounts are not impacted but NetSuite has announced plans to eventually roll out this requirement to all NetSuite accounts in the future.
2. Which Celigo integrations are not impacted?

Integrations (i.e., Integration Apps or integrator.io) using Token-Based Authentication (TBA) will not be impacted by the new NetSuite requirement. View this article to find out why TBA is a more secure authentication method for your NetSuite connection.

3. Which Celigo integrations are impacted?

Currently, only accounts that meet all of these criteria are impacted:

  • New NetSuite account set up with version 2018.1; and
  • Celigo integration is set up using a NetSuite account with Administrator or Full Access role, or a NetSuite account requiring 2FA; and
  • Celigo integration uses “Basic” instead of “Token” authentication.

If your Celigo integration meets all of these criteria, follow the steps in Q5 when installing your Celigo integration.

4. How do I check which authentication I’m using for the NetSuite connection?

Go to the Settings page of your integration on the integrator.io dashboard. Click the Connections tab and you will see the following fields:

  • Authentication Type will show either “Basic” or “Token”
  • Role will indicate the role of the associated NetSuite account
5. What should I do if my Celigo Integration App is impacted by NetSuite 2FA?

If you are installing a Celigo Integration App and your NetSuite account meets all the criteria listed in Q3, follow these steps:

  • During installation, use a NetSuite account that does not require 2FA (i.e., does not have Admin or Full Access rights, or is not required to have 2FA)
  • Select “Basic” authentication type (currently TBA cannot be set up during installation)
  • After the Integration App is installed, follow these instructions to create a NetSuite token and enable it for the Celigo integration (access to the article requires being logged into your Celigo account). At this point, accounts with Admin and Full Access roles can be used for the NetSuite connection.
6. What should I do if my integration that I build using integrator.io is impacted by NetSuite 2FA?

When setting up the NetSuite connection, create a NetSuite token and then select “Token” as the authentication type in integrator.io by following these instructions (access to the article requires being logged into your Celigo account). This will allow NetSuite accounts using 2FA to be used for the integration.

7. What if my Celigo integration is not impacted by this change?

If your NetSuite account does not meet the criteria specified in Q3, you do not need to do anything. However, we strongly recommend that you use “Token” as your NetSuite authentication type which is far more secure than using basic authentication of username and password.
