Black History Month was started by Carter G. Woodson and was first celebrated in 1926. The purpose of Black History Month is to highlight the contributions that Black People had on American History, which is significant. Nationally, Black History Month is celebrated with parades, cultural programs, and many other extravaganzas. Although the month of February is recognized as the official “Black History Month”, Black history should be celebrated year-round!

Dr. Marian Croak

Dr. Marian Croak is a Black engineer who received degrees from both University of Southern California and Princeton University, and spent her career working on ground breaking technology. Dr Croak currently works as the Vice President of Engineering at Google. She invented the Voice Over Internet Protocol in 1973.

Mark Dean
Colored Computer Monitor, 1980s
Mark Dean is a Black inventor and Computer Engineer who holds degrees from University of Tennessee, Stanford University, and Florida Atlantic University. Dean is responsible for inventing the colored computer monitor in the 1980’s.
